小村寿太郎(宮崎県)
Komura Jutaro was born in Miyazaki, Japan. He went to Harvard University as the first Ministry of Education exchange student from the University South School (now the University of Tokyo). He studied modern education and acquired a worldwide perspective.
Jutaro later joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and played an important role as a diplomat during the Meiji period. He contributed to achieving peace at the Portsmouth Conference and ending the
Russo-Japanese War. He also worked to revise the unequal treaties that Japan concluded with Western powers at the end of the Edo period. He established Japan’s global standing.
