Komura Jutaro was born in Miyazaki, Japan.  He went to Harvard University as the first Ministry of Education exchange student from the University South School (now the University of Tokyo).  He studied modern education and acquired a worldwide perspective.

    Jutaro later joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and played an important role as a diplomat during the Meiji period.  He contributed to achieving peace at the Portsmouth Conference and ending the Russo-Japanese War.  He also worked to revise the unequal treaties that Japan concluded with Western powers at the end of the Edo period.  He established Japan’s global standing.

　小村寿太郎（こむらじゅたろう）は日本の宮崎で生まれました。彼は大学南校（現・東京大学）から第1回文部省留学生としてハーバード大学に進みました。近代教育を学び、国際的な世界観を身につけたのです。

　その後は外務省に入り、明治時代の外交官として重要な役割を果たしました。ポーツマス会議での和平達成により、日露戦争を終わらせることに貢献（こうけん）しました。さらには江戸末期に日本が西洋列強と結んだ不平等条約の改正にも尽力（じんりょく）しました。日本の国際的な地位を確立したのでした。
