大宮盆栽村 (埼玉県)
Omiya Bonsai Village is famous for bonsai. Many bonsai growers in Tokyo moved there after the Great Kanto Earthquake. They wanted a large area of land with fresh water and air. The place officially changed its name to Bonsai Machi in 1942. When it started, there were some rules for residents. For example, each home had to have more than 10 bonsai pots; they had to leave their gates open; and they had to plant a hedge.
Now, these streets, including names such as Sakura, Kaede, and Momiji-dori, are still quiet, old-fashioned, and green.
