Our 1,000-yen bill will have a new design from 2024.  The portrait will change from Noguchi Hideyo.  The new bill will have an image of Kitasato Shibasaburo.  He was an excellent doctor.  He is known as the father of today’s Japanese medicine.

    In 1853, Kitasato Shibasaburo was born in Oguni-machi, Aso-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture.  He had a dream to become a doctor when he was fifteen years old.  It took him 15 years to make his dream come true.  He traveled to different parts of the world to study, such as Germany and Hong Kong.  He discovered the cause of the bubonic plague.  Thanks to his effort, doctors nowadays can help many people.

　2024年から千円札のデザインが新しくなります。肖像（しょうぞう）が野口英世から変更（へんこう）されるのです。新しいお札は北里柴三郎（きたさとしばさぶろう）の肖像になります。彼は優秀（ゆうしゅう）な医師でした。近代日本医学の父として知られています。

　北里柴三郎は1853年、熊本県阿蘇郡（あそぐん）小国町（おぐにまち）に生まれました。15歳の時、医師になる夢をいだきました。その夢の実現には15年かかりました。研究のためドイツや香港など世界各地に行きました。彼は腺（せん）ペストの原因を発見しました。その功績により医師たちはたくさんの人々を救えるのです。
