Shibusawa Eiichi was born in the Edo Period in Fukaya, Saitama.  He was a servant for the last Shogun, Yoshinobu.  Eiichi then became an official for the Meiji Government.  After his retirement, he became an entrepreneur and started many new companies and industries.  For this reason, he is now called the father of Japanese capitalism. 

    In his book, Eiichi says it is important for companies not only to make money, but also to make many people happy at the same time.

　渋沢栄一（しぶさわえいいち）は江戸時代（えどじだい）に埼玉の深谷で生まれました。彼は最後の将軍となった慶喜（よしのぶ）の家臣でした。のちには明治政府の役人となりました。退職後、起業家となり、たくさんの新しい会社や産業を起こしました。そのため、今や日本の資本主義の父と呼ばれています。

　彼は著書の中で、企業（きぎょう）にとって重要なのは利益を得ることだけでなく、同時に多くの人々を幸せにすることだと述べています。
